County Seat population (2016): 2,644
Sylva has a weird name, but beautiful views of the landscape.
The county seat was not always Sylva. It was originally Webster, but they switched it to Sylva in 1913. The businesses here close extremely early (around 5:00 PM), but that's probably due to it's close proximity to Western Carolina University. The entire downtown area is full of old buildings.
