Location of Polk County |
County Seat Population (2016): 987
As the title says, this post is mostly about Saluda, a small town near the border with Henderson County, and not the County Seat, Columbus. But I did stop by Columbus for the courthouse. Anyways, Saluda!

Downtown Saluda |
Saluda is a small mountain town near two borders: The Polk-Henderson county border, and the NC-SC border. Also here I visited the first "_____ in North Carolina" this time being the Oldest Grocery Store in North Carolina. The town, like
Bryson City, is famous for trains, with the train here being built on the steepest grade in the country. We ate at a nice restaurant, went to a small farmers market and then left for Columbus!

A little bit of Main Street Columbus. |
We didn't spend much time in Columbus, but it felt like a small South Carolina town to me more than a mountain town. Anyway, I got the courthouse and some memorials.
