Hahaha, jokes on you, the seat isn't Hickory, it's Newton!
Downtown Newton
Newton is a very small town. I'm sorry to say, but I found that there isn't much to do here. Anyway HISTORY.

The county was formed in 1842 from parts of Lincoln County, and the seat was chosen to be Newton (it really should've been Hickory). This caused a little bit of controversy, but not much. The county was one of the biggest gold producers of the state, and in the country at the time. North Carolina was actually the biggest producer of gold at the time until 1848, when the Californian Gold Rush started. Most of the original inhabitants were people of European political strife, mostly German and Scots-Irish. They originally lived in Pennsylvania, but after problems started there, they moved south into Virginia, until more problems struck there and they eventually moved more south to what is now Catawba County.

After the civil war, Catawba County began a annual event honoring their military, the Old Soldiers Reunion. It has evolved into a large festival held the third week of August, and is the oldest continuing patriotic celebration in the United States.

The county received national attention for the courage of the people during the polio epidemic of the 1940s. In 55 working hours, people joined together to turn a youth camp into a hospital.
Anyway, other stuff. I got both the courthouse and the closest thing to a veterans memorial, a public safety memorial,
