So, as I was wrapping up the western counties, I decided to hit this one because I was running out of ones for the west. So, Avery County and Newland.

Downtown Newland

Newland is a small town. Even though it has about 300 more people than Hayesville, it feels smaller than there. It also still has video rental stores.

Anyway, Avery County is important because it's actually the newest county, being formed in 1911 with Hoke County. The county makes a lot of christmas trees, and being the time of year, there were a lot when we came there. When the county was formed, the original county seat was Elk Park but was moved to Newland a year later.

The veterans memorial was probably the biggest one I've seen in all counties so far. There was a entire park for it!

The courthouse was cool. Also it was cool, literally, It was so cold I could only take a few pictures.
