Yancey County: Burnsville

Seal of Yancey County
Location of Yancey County
County Seat Population (2016): 1,656
Well, it's been a long time. Also this post is about a week late, sorry about that. I went to this county December 29th, 2018, which makes it the last county of 2018! Yay. Anyway, the last county in alphabetical order! Also it was dark when I took these pictures.
The statue of Otway Burns, the person the town is named after.
This town was like Hayesville, it had a big town square, but nothing else. It is bigger than Bakersville, though. The town also had relation to many other county seats I've visited (particularly Sylva); Lots of small businesses. It's also the only incorporated town in Yancey County.
Downtown Burnsville
Every county or county seat has something famous about it, and Yancey is no exception. Yancey County is home to Mt. Mitchell, the tallest mountain in North Carolina, which I didn't climb because It was literally 7:00 at night. I do want to soon though!
A park
The person the town is named after, Otway Burns, was a naval hero in the War of 1812. His grandson gave the statue to the town in 1909, which is no longer there because they replaced the statue in 2000.

Here's the usual veteran's memorial!

I also got both the old and new courthouses. Last county of 2018!
